Our database-driven dynamic applications include calendars and date-pickers, online booking systems, shopping carts, payment gateway interfaces, content management systems, blogs and forums, subscription management systems, emailers, customer/order management systems, discount coupon/voucher management, and much more. We also build secure online administration areas (also known as ‘back-ends’) where our customers can set the parameters for their application, monitor feedback and run reports. Wherever possible, online applications are now built on the same responsive web design principles as our pure HTML sites.
One of our clients, for example, wanted an online booking and payments system so their customers could check the availability of holiday cottages online, and reserve and pay for them (see screenshots 1 and 2 below). We designed an interactive calendar app for each property, showing existing reservations and allowing web users to select weeks with a single click and secure them online. Users then pay deposits and are automatically prompted by email (and if necessary reminded) to return to pay the balance due at the appropriate time (visit live site).
Another client wanted a bespoke shopping cart so customers could purchase high-end designer handbags directly off its product pages (see screenshots 3 to 6 below). We designed our own user-friendly e-commerce solution that allows users to order or pre-order and pay for handbags, etc. The system automatically calculates postage & packing charges for each order, adjusts stock levels, and enables discount coupons to be redeemed. It also generates a pro-forma PDF invoice sent automatically via email attachment to both the customer and our client for its records (visit live site).
For the same client we developed a secure administration area providing access to live data about its customers and orders and enabling adjustments to be made to the site without the need for technical knowledge. Our client can now add new products, remove old ones, change product descriptions, add and update product photographs, adjust stock levels (e.g. after re-stocking), set/change carriage options and rates, set/remove discount coupons, update the global VAT rate, moderate blog posts/replies, and back-up data all from an easy-to-use secure admin area.
For an online retailer of antiques, we designed a website with a bespoke content management system making it easy for our client to add/remove products, etc. With each product listing requiring up to a dozen photographs and hundreds of listings live at any time, we had to design a system that would handle image management very efficiently. The client prepares the high-resolution images offline and uploads them in bulk by simply dragging and dropping them in a dedicated back-end application. Images are then automatically resized by the system and appropriate thumbnails created to keep site bandwidth requirements to a minimum. Our highly flexible CMS also allows any number of new product categories to be created, amended and deleted with changes reflected immediately in the site’s live menu structure.
A sophisticated administration area also allows our client to track orders and customer accounts, view contact forms (which our client has already received by email), set/remove discount coupon codes, add/edit testimonials, and update boilerplate product text and the VAT rate. There is also a special facility to create an automatic corner sales banner to promote special events.
